LAS CRUCES, NM - A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle in Las Cruces last week, officials said.
A news release from the city of Las Cruces stated that the incident took place Jan. 7 near the intersection of north Alameda Boulevard and Harvard Drive at about 7:20 p.m.
Investigators learned that 61-year-old Lorenzo Espinoza of Las Cruces was riding a bicycle north in a designated bicycle lane on Alameda Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox. Espinoza was pronounced dead after being taken to Mountainview Regional Medical Center.
The Equinox driver, a 31-year-old man, stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision, and so far no charges have been filed.
