ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man who crashed into an Albuquerque public school bus while reportedly street racing in 2022 has been sentenced to prison, KOB reports.
Judge Bruce Fox imposed a four year sentence on Mario Perez, who had faced a recommended sentence of 15 years. He pleaded no contest in December to five counts of reckless driving.
Prosecutors said Perez was driving a Ford Mustang while racing another Mustang on westbound Gibson Boulevard near Messina Drive. As the school bus went through the intersection, Perez's car crashed into the bus, which rolled onto its side. Seven of the 23 students on board the bus were taken to the hospital with injuries.
A witness estimated that Perez was driving at around 110 miles per hour in a 40 miles per hour zone prior to the collision.
