Indianapolis man charged in hit-and-run that killed teenage bicyclist

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -  Police announced an arrest in the case of a hit-and-run crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in Cumberland Oct. 10.

According to WXIN, the victim was riding his bicycle in the 1100 block of Cumberland Road at about 10 p.m. when he was reportedly struck from behind by a southbound Chrysler that left the scene.  The teen died after being taken to an area hospital.

Police identified the driver as Joshua Raine of Indianapolis and said he has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury, a Level 4 felony.

According to court documents, Raine reported the accident the next day, telling police he was listening to loud music while on his way to work when he hit something.  He assumed he hit a deer and kept driving.

Police said he did not initially report the incident after seeing damage to his vehicle but realized he may have struck the juvenile when he saw news coverage of the crash.

Investigators said they linked Raine and the Chrysler to the fatal accident following a search of the vehicle.
