Driver, passenger arrested after police pursuit and crash in Roswell

ROSWELL, NM - A police pursuit in Roswell last week led to a crash and the arrest of two people, the Roswell Daily Record reports.

Roswell police said the incident began shortly before 8:24 a.m. on Oct. 3 when an officer noticed that an F-250 pickup truck matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen out of Los Lunas.  After the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver of the pickup led police on a brief pursuit that ended when the vehicle collided with a Dodge Charger in the vicinity of North Washington Avenue and 18th Street.

The pickup driver, 28-year-old Zane Fernandez of Carlsbad, and a woman who was his passenger allegedly fled the scene but were later apprehended.

Fernandez was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer and several traffic offenses. The passenger was charged with resisting, evading, and obstructing an officer.  The driver of the Dodge was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
