INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Authorities said a man trying to elude police was killed Tuesday when his vehicle crashed in Indianapolis.
WISH reported details of the incident, which began when Plainfield police officers tried to pull over the driver for going through a red light on Ronald Reagan Parkway at about 2:50 p.m.
The driver did not comply with the traffic stop and a police chase ensued. The driver hit another vehicle and continued to flee into Indianapolis, according to police. His car eventually struck a tree in the vicinity of Girls School Road and Moon Drive, and plunged into a pond.
Officers who had been involved in the pursuit jumped into the pond to try to save the driver who was trapped in the car, but he died at the scene. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Jayden Armstead of Indianapolis.
The incident is under investigation by Indiana State Police.
