ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI - Authorities said they have made an arrest in the case of a collision that killed a young bicycle rider in St. Joseph County, according to WWMT.
The incident happened early Monday morning in Sherman Township. According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office, a 10-year-old boy was riding his bicycle in the area of Banker Street and Balk Road when he was hit by a truck and suffered fatal injuries. Three other children riding with him were not injured.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Logan Thomas of Vicksburg, is now facing charges. Thomas told investigators he did not see the children but admitted using a controlled substance the night before the collision.
Thomas, who was driving on a suspended license, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while license denied or revoked causing death, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison, and operating a vehicle without security (insurance), a misdemeanor. He is due back in court Dec. 17.
