Woman convicted in collision that killed bicyclist in Georgetown Township

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, MI - A jury has convicted a woman charged in connection with a fatal accident in Ottawa County last year, reports WZZM.

The incident took place June 19, 2024 on Fillmore Street near 28th Avenue in Georgetown Township.  Authorities said 39-year-old Jehnel Jean Pore of Allendale was driving a Chevy eastbound at about 8:40 a.m. when she crossed over the center line and struck a man riding a bicycle on the westbound shoulder of Fillmore Street.  The bicyclist, 59-year-old Douglas Sjoerdsma of Grandville, died after being taken to a Grand Rapids hospital.

Pore was found guilty on Thursday on charges of operating under the influence causing death, moving violation causing death and possession of a controlled substance.   She will be sentenced on March 17.
