In a news release, State Police said the accident happened Saturday night about 12 miles from the Arizona border at approximately 9 p.m. An investigation found that 60-year-old Bret Wayne Sackett of Jordan, Utah was driving a 2020 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer on I-40 west when he exited the highway at a high rate of speed.

Portales woman sentenced for hit-and-run that injured boyPORTALES, NM - A woman entered into a plea deal in connection with a crash in Portales that seriously injured a 12-year-old boy, KRQE reports. 36-year-old Christine Shuman was facing several charges for the March 2022 incident, including leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, careless driving and tampering with evidence.
