Woman killed in rollover crash after running stop sign in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM - Las Cruces police and firefighters were called to the scene of a fatal rollover accident last week, reports KTSM9 News.

The incident took place Feb. 13 at the corner of Griggs Avenue and Hermosa Street at about 3:30 p.m.  According to the initial investigation, a 24-year-old woman was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV southbound on Hermosa Street when she went through a stop sign at the intersection.

The SUV was struck by a Chevrolet Impala that was headed west on Griggs Avenue.  The SUV rotated and rolled over, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police said she did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt.

The Impala driver, a 22-year-old woman, was not seriously injured.   The intersection was closed to traffic while the area was being cleared and investigated.
