Woman killed in pedestrian accident on east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Police were called to the scene of a deadly pedestrian accident on the east side of Indianapolis late Tuesday night, WTHR reported.

Officers responded to East 30th Street at Elmhurst Drive shortly after 11:50 p.m., and found a woman in the street who had been struck by a vehicle.  The pedestrian, whose name was not released, died after being taken to an Indianapolis hospital.

The driver involved stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, who do not believe impairment was a contributing factor in the incident.

Traffic through the intersection was blocked during the crash investigation, which is ongoing.   Police said the area where it happened was dimly lit, and does not have sidewalks.
