Woman goes to court for accident that killed bicyclist in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A woman had a court hearing last week in connection with a fatal accident that occurred in Albuquerque in June 2023, according to KRQE.

Investigators said 23-year-old Leann Blackhorse was driving a pickup truck at about 1:30 a.m. when she collided with a bicyclist at Gibson Boulevard and Yale Boulevard.  The bicyclist, Ernest Chischilly, had also been hit by another vehicle and died at the scene.

Driver inattention and intoxication were contributing factors in the incident, according to police.

Blackhorse pleaded no contest in September to one count of DWI (second offense) and one count of leaving the scene of a deadly accident.

A judge last week decided to send her case through the Second Judicial District Court’s Young Adult Court program, with sentencing to be held at a later date.
