ROSWELL, NM - Police said a woman is facing charges in connection with a crash that occurred in Roswell recently.
The Roswell Daily Record reports 26-year-old Sidney Mirella Martinez-Gomez of Roswell was one of the two drivers involved in a street racing incident Nov. 12.
A Chaves County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop the two vehicles at about 1:35 a.m. but the drivers did not pull over and a pursuit ensued.
The sheriff's office said Martinez-Gomez was fleeing in a white Honda when she crashed over the sidewalk at East Second Street and North Garden Avenue. The vehicle hit a light post and came to rest near a bench. No one was injured in the crash.
Martinez-Gomez was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer and racing on highways. She was released on her own recognizance. Investigators were reportedly still trying to identify the driver of the other vehicle involved, an SUV.
