Woman, 85, killed in accident on north side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - An elderly woman died following a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Indianapolis on Friday afternoon, reports WTHR.

The victim, identified as 85-year-old Dorothy Williams, was driving a car south on North Meridian Street on the city's north side when the incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m.  According to Indianapolis police, the car collided with a passenger that was headed east on East 62nd Street.

Williams was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.  The woman driving the van was hospitalized in critical condition, and was reported to be cooperating with the investigation.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is working to determine the cause of the wreck, and said that intoxication is not thought to have been a contributing factor.
