Woman, 78, killed when vehicles collide in Holland Township

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, MI - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said a collision in Holland Township claimed the life of an elderly woman on Wednesday morning, according to MLive.com.

Investigators learned that a man was driving a Pontiac sedan west on Riley Street at about 11:10 a.m. and was trying to turn left onto 112th Street.  At that point, the car was hit by a Ford sport utility vehicle going east.   The light was green for traffic in both directions, witnesses said.

A passenger in the Pontiac, a 78-year-old woman from Holland Township, was pronounced dead after being transported to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital.  The driver of the car, an 86-year-old Holland man, and the SUV driver, a 34-year-old Zeeland woman, were injured.  Their conditions were not disclosed.

Sheriff's deputies said the drivers were wearing seat belts, but it was not clear whether the woman who died was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Services Division of the sheriff's department.
