Van driver injured in collision with truck on I-74 in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, IN - Authorites were called to the scene of a collision involving a van and a box truck in Shelby County on Wednesday morning, WXIN reported.

Investigators learned that a 2016 GMC full-size van crashed into the back of a 2015 Freightliner box truck on eastbound Interstate 74 at about 8:21 a.m.  The driver of the van, a 58-year-old Indianapolis man, was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Shelbyville Fire Department.  He was transported to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

The truck driver, a 26-year-old Missouri man, was evaluated at the scene.

The Indiana State Police responded to the incident along with the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and area first responders.

A stretch of the interstate was closed in the area for about two and a half hours during the accident response.
