Teenager sentenced for fatal ATV accident in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A 16-year-old boy was sentenced in connection with a fatal accident in southwest Albuquerque last year, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman announced.

A juvenile court judge sentenced the teen to two years in the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center., the maximum punishment allowed under New Mexico law.

The incident occurred on April 21, 2024 at the intersection of Central Avenue SW and Yucca Drive.  Bregman said the teenager was driving a four-wheeler when he went through a red light and crashed into a truck.

His 15-year-old girlfriend, a passenger in the four-wheeler, was killed.  The driver admtted to vehicular homicide.
