South Bend man killed when car crashes into tree on Quince Road

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN - A single-vehicle wreck in St. Joseph County Saturday night left a driver dead, according to WNDU.

The victim was identified as 33-year-old Jeffery Young of South Bend. He was driving an SUV north on Quince Road when the crash happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the SUV went off the road while going around a curve just north of Darden Road and crashed head-on into a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Bystanders tried to remove Young from the vehicle but were not able to, and he died of his injuries. Police are continuing to investigate the accident. They said speed is believed to have been a primary contributing factor.
