Victim of crash involving semi on U.S. 70 identified as Portales woman

ROOSEVELT COUNTY, NN - Authorities have identified the woman killed in a crash in Roosevelt County last week, reports the Eastern New Mexico News.

New Mexico State Police said the victim of the Feb. 5 incident was 33-year-old Hannah Montiel of Portales.   According to NMSP, the multi-vehicle accident began at about 8 a.m. when the driver of a commercial motor vehicle tried to make a turn from State Route 202 onto the median of U.S. 70 to head south.

A northbound Ford Mustang then crashed into the 18-wheeler, causing both to end up in the middle of U.S. 70.

Montiel was driving a Kia north on the highway when she collided with the Mustang and the truck.  Her car was then hit from behind by other vehicles.  Montiel was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Heavy fog in the area was reported to have been a contributing factor in the wreck.
