INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A pedestrian was killed in an accident that snarled traffic early Monday morning in Indianapolis, the Indiana State Police said.
WTHR reported details of the incident that occurred on Interstate 465 westbound near the off-ramp to Allisonville Road on the city's northeast side.
State Police said a semi-truck pulled off to the side of the interstate at about 5:15 a.m. after losing a wheel. A car struck the wheel and then collided with the pedestrian. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the car stayed at the crash scene and was reported to be cooperating with investigators. The accident caused traffic backups of several miles along I-465 after the off-ramp was shut down for nearly four hours for the investigation.
