Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by SUV in Farmington

FARMINGTON, NM - A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Farmington, according to the Tri-City Record.

The Farmington Police Department has released details of the incident that occurred in the area of East Broadway and North Vine Avenue Sept. 28.

Police said the driver of a 2006 Nissan Xterra reportedly struck the pedestrian while driving west near the intersection at about 9 p.m.  The victim, 48-year-old Walter Harvey of Fruitland, was initially transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center before being flown to Albuquerque with possible spine injuries, along with facial and skull fractures.  

The Nissan driver, 35-year-old Zane Kirk of Kirtland, reportedly told police he did not see Harvey after the pedestrian entered the street.

.According to police, the accident was the result of driver inattention and pedestrian error.  No citations were issued.  It was not believed that alcohol was a contributing factor.
