LAFAYETTE, IN - Indiana State Police said the driver involved in a fatal wreck in Tippecanoe County on Thursday morning is under arrest, according to WISH TV.
The crash took place on Interstate 65 northbound southeast of Lafayette at about 10 a.m. ISP said 29-year-old Framber Monserrat of Chicago was driving a 2008 Honda Accent when he veered onto the shoulder of the interstate and overcorrected. This caused the car to cross back over the northbound lanes, go off the east side of the interstate, and overturn.
A passenger, whose identity was not released, died at the scene. Monserrat and a juvenile passenger suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
State troopers said there were indications that Monserrat had been driving under the influence, and he was taken into custody after being released from the hospital.
He was preliminarily charged with three felonies: operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, neglect of a dependent causing bodily injury, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a minor.
