Off-duty Albuquerque police officer fatally struck by vehicle

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A hit-and-run incident claimed the life of an Albuquerque police officer early Wednesday morning, KOB reports.

 Officer Bianca Quintana was off-duty at the time the incident took place shortly before 1 a.m.  According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office, she was struck by a car and killed while walking in the vicinity of Coors Boulevard SW and Chapulin Road SW in the South Valley.

The driver involved left the scene and is now being sought by police.

"This is a tragic loss for the Albuquerque Police Department and especially for the family and friends of Officer Bianca Quintana,” said APD Chief Harold Medina. “The entire APD family extends our most sincere condolences to Officer Quintana’s family.”

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating the crash in close cooperation with the Albuquerque Police Department.
