SANTA FE, NM - Police in Santa Fe are investigating the death of a pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident Saturday night.
A report by the Santa Fe New Mexican states that the victim was identified as 58-year-old Bernadette Martinez of Santa Fe. Police said she was attempting to walk across St. Francis Drive in the area of Cordova Road and Alta Vista Street at about 8:20 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle.
Martinez was pronounced dead after being transported to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center.
Witnesses told police that the driver stopped initially and got out of the vehicle but then fled the scene. Investigators are trying to verify the information provided by the witnesses on the driver and the vehicle involved.
Police added that Martinez was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing at the time, our Albuquerque car accident attorney says.
