GRANT COUNTY, NM - One person was killed and another was injured in a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle in Grant County last week.
According to a news release from New Mexico State Police, the accident happened Friday night on State Road 35 around milepost 18, northeast of Silver City.
Investigators said 35-year-old Alexander Harry Yazzie of Hurley, New Mexico was driving a Polaris Sportsman ATV at about 11 p.m. when for unknown reasons, the vehicle overturned.
Yazzie and his 39-year-old female passenger were both ejected. Yazzie was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was airlifted to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.
State Police are investigating the fatal crash, and said that alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor. Neither person was wearing a helmet, according to NMSP.
