ROSWELL, NM - A 66-year-old man died Wednesday morning, January 22, after a Roswell police officer crashed their cruiser into his vehicle, according to KOB4.
The fatal collision occurred on an unspecified span of North Main Street, shortly after 9:50 a.m.
Roswell Police Department officials say the officer had his lights and sirens activated while responding to a multi-injury collision in the area. As the officer droved south on North Main Street, the victim, who was driving an Oldsmobile, attempted to turn left from the other side of the road. Moments later, the police cruiser collided with the Oldsmobile.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The officer, who was also taken to a hospital, was still being treated as of Thursday morning, but is expected to make a recovery.
According to the police department, an investigation will be conducted to ensure the involved officer adhered to the correct procedures.
