Multi-vehicle accident in Crown Point injures 4, blocks Interstate 65

CROWN POINT, IN - Indiana State Police and emergency crews were dispatched to a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 65 in Crown Point last Thursday night.

According to a Facebook post by Crown Point Fire Rescue shortly before 11 p.m., the incident happened on northbound I-65, south of the exit for U.S. 231.  Numerous jackknifed semi-trucks were involved in the accident.   WISH TV reported that 12 semis were involved in the wreck.

Four patients were transported to area hospitals with undisclosed injuries, but no fatalities were reported.

I-65 was blocked near the scene, and drivers were told to expect extended closures due to fuel leaking from the crash damage.   Lake County Hazmat was involved in the cleanup efforts in the main travel lanes.  All lanes of I-65 were closed for about six hours.
