Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision with van on State Road 106

MARSHALL COUNTY, IN - A motorcycle rider was seriously injured in an accident in Marshall County on Monday afternoon, Indiana State Police said.

A report by WBND stated that the incident occurred at the intersection of Indiana 106 and Miami Trail at about 3 p.m.  State Police learned that the driver of a 2022 Honda minivan was headed south on Miami Trail and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.  The Honda entered the path of a westbound 2017 Indian motorcycle, resulting in a collision.

The motorcycle rider, 61-year-old Roger Lavine of Plymouth, was thrown from the bike.  Lavine, who was not wearing a helmet, was flown to Memorial Hospital with injuries reported to be potentially life-threatening.  The Honda driver, 36-year-old Heather Steinhofer of South Bend, was also hospitalized but no details were released on her condition.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident.
