Motorcycle rider dies after colliding with car in Walker

WALKER, MI - Michigan State Police said a motorcycle rider who fled from a traffic stop was killed in a crash in Walker on Monday night.

According to a WOOD TV report, a police officer attempted to pull over the motorcyclist in a parking lot regarding the bike being unregistered.  At that point, the rider took off at a high rate of speed and crashed into a car turning near the intersection of Alpine Avenue and 4 Mile Road at about 9 p.m.

The motorcyclist died at the scene, while the driver of the car was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The intersection was shut down for several hours for the crash response and investigation.  MSP said the officer involved in the initial stop did not attempt to pursue the motorcyclist prior to the collision.
