ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A fatal motorcycle accident near Downtown Albuquerque early Sunday morning is under investigation, according to the Albuquerque Journal.

The incident took place in the area of Oak Street and Lomas Boulevard, where police were called to the scene shortly before 3 a.m.

Police said a man was riding a motorcycle northbound on Oak Street when he went off the road and crashed into a speed limit sign. The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, died at the scene

The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team, which is investigating the accident, said it does not appear that speed was a significant contributing factor.  It has yet to be determined whether driver impairment played a role.
