INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A moped rider died following a collision with a car on the east side of Indianapolis on Saturday morning, police said.
According to WTHR, the incident happened in the 6100 block of East 34th Street, where officers were dispatched to the scene just before 4 a.m.
Investigators learned that the driver of a car crossed over the center line while heading west on East 34th Street and struck an eastbound moped. The moped rider, whose name was not released, died at the scene.
Witnesses told police that the man driving the car attempted to flee the scene on foot. He was taken into custody a short time later and was arrested on an outstanding warant in Marion County.
Police believe intoxication played a role in the collision but were awaiting toxicology results.
