A passenger vehicle and a semi-truck were involved in the wreck near the Zuzax exit on I-40, about three miles east of Tijeras.   The passenger car became trapped underneath the trailer and caught fire.  The car's two occupants were killed, and were identified as David and Mary Harper.

It took until 11 p.m. for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.  I-40 was shut down in both directions for several hours for the accident investigation, which is ongoing.
