LAS CRUCES, NM - Police are investigating a collision in Las Cruces that left one person dead and three others injured.
According to a press release from the City of Las Cruces, the wreck happened Feb. 2 on the 900 block of N. Valley Drive, where police arrived shortly after 9 p.m.
An investigation found that the driver of a 2024 Nissan Armada was going north on Valley Drive at a high rate of speed when the car rear-ended a Chevrolet Malibu. The impact caused the Malibu to enter the southbound lanes of traffic,a where it sideswiped a Ford Mustang. The Armada went off the roadway and struck a building.
The driver and sole occupant of the Armada died after being taken to Mountainvie Regional Medical Center. He was identified as 54-year-old Michael James Massa, from Bellflower, California.
The driver of the Malibu and two occupants of the Mustang were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. . A portion of Valley Drive was shut down for the accident investigation.
