COLFAX COUNTY, NM - An Amtrak train and a vehicle were involved in a fatal collision in Colfax County on Monday morning.
According to the Colfax County Sheriff’s Office , the incident happened on New Mexico Highway 555 near the tracks west of Raton.
The sheriff's office responded after a vehicle struck the train at about 11 a.m. A man found inside the vehicle was taken to Miners Colfax Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was later identified as Lowell Stanfill of Raton.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
