Man charged with leaving scene of fatal accident in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - An Albuquerque man is facing charges in connection with a fatal collision that occurred last month, reports the Albuquerque Journal.

Police said they have issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Jose Ivan Rios Sanchez.  He is wanted for a crash that occurred Jan. 19 on Kathryn Street SE near Carlisle Place at about 4 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver of a Dodge Ram traveling at high speed, losing control of the vehicle, and hitting 64-year-old Chuck Malagodi, who was found dead at the scene.    The driver was then seen speeding away from the crash down Carlisle.

The pickup truck was later found parked at a home blocks away from the scene, with front-end damage along with beer cans and bottles.   An investigation which included the use of surveillance video led to Rios Sanchez being identified as the owner of the pickup, according to a criminal complaint.

He is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and careless driving.   Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to contact Albuquerque poice or Metro Crime Stoppers.
