ALBUQUERQUE, NM - Authorities said a man is facing charges in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in Albuquerque on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Albuquerque Journal.
The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Miguel Chazez of Los Lunas. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office said he was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Pasel Del Norte Boulevard when the accident took place shortly before 4:21 p.m. The driver was speeding down the off-ramp at the Second Street exit before colliding with a traffic light pole. The pickup went airborne and came down on the driver's side. Two other vehicles were hit in the incident.
The passenger in the pickup, 49-year-old Ernesto Arreola, died in the wreck.
The Sheriff’s Office said that during its investigation, multiple open containers of alcohol found in the vehicle, and said Chavez admitted to smoking marijuana prior to the accident.
Chavez was charged with homicide by vehicle DWI and driving with a revoked license. He was being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
