INDIANAPOLIS, IN - A multi-vehicle collision on the southwest side of Indianapolis left a police officer injured on Sunday afternoon, reports WISH.
The incident happened near the intersection of Kentucky Avenue and Mooresville Road shortly after 1 p.m. It began when a mattress fell from the back of a pickup truck, and a police offcer stopped in the left lane with lights flashing to remove it.
A second Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer approached and collided with a northbound Honda Accord. The second police car rear-ended the first patrol car, and then overturned.
The second officer was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and spoke to investigators, but there was no immediate word on whether any citations would be issued for the mattress falling out.
Northbound Kentucky Avenue was shut down while the scene was being cleared.
