Indiana state trooper injured in collision with vehicle in Grant County

GRANT COUNTY, IN - A collision in Grant County on Tuesday morning sent an Indiana State Police trooper to the hospital, WISH TV reported.

The trooper was on patrol in a Dodge Charger on westbound State Road 22 when the crash happened shortly after 9 a.m.  According to ISP, the Dodge was behind a Ford F-450 pulling a utility trailer when the Ford driver began to slow down to turn right near County Road 600 East.

The Charger rear-ended the trailer for an undetermined reason, then went off the south side of the road and into a ditch.

Senior Trooper Weston Shanks was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The Ford driver was not injured.

State Police do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident, but the investigation is continuing.
