Elderly woman killed in alleged street racing accident in Clovis

CLOVIS, NM - Police in Clovis are investigating a crash blamed on street racing that killed an elderly woman last week.

According to MyHighPlains.com, officers and first responders were dispatched to the scene Dec. 25 in the area of Mitchell Street and 21st Street at about 2:19 p.m.

An investigation found that the driver of a Toyota Corolla was headed west on 21st Street and attempting to turn onto Mitchell Street when the vehicle was struck by a Dodge Charger.  Witnesses told police that the Dodge had been racing a truck prior to the collision.

The driver of the Toyota, 83-year-old Billie Brazell, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Dodge, a 24-year-old man, was extricated from the car by fire crews and paramedics.  The driver of the truck that was racing the Dodge left the scene, investigators said.
