Driver injured in collision on U.S. 33 in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, IN - A two-vehicle collision in Elkhart County on Tuesday morning sent one of the drivers to the hospital, WBND reported.

The crash occurred at 23409 U.S. 33 in Elkhart, where deputies with the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene at about 7:35 a.m.

The sheriff's office learned that the driver of a 2021 Ford Transit van was heading southeast when he made a left turn using the center turn lane.  The driver of a 2009 Nissan Versa was going northwest in the outside lane and struck the front of the Ford as it turned.

The Nissan driver, a 37-year-old Elkhart man, was transported to Elkhart General Hospital after complaining of chest pain.  The Ford driver, 37-year-old Curtis Christophel of Elkhart, was not injured.

The investigation indicates that drugs or alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors in the accident.
