BENTON HARBOR, MI - Police were dispatched to the scene of a fatal car accident in Benton Harbor last Wednesday afternoon, WOOD reports.
According to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office, a driver was passing several cars while heading west on E. Britain Avenue at about 2:45 p.m. The driver lost control of the vehicle near Pipestone Street and collided with a power pole, then crashed into another pole. The second pole snapped in half while the car went airborne and landed on the passenger side.
Police officers arrived to find the driver dead at the scene. He was identified as 33-year-old Darrell Pargo Jr. of Benton Harbor.
Investigators believe speed was a contributing factor in the fatal wreck. It was not immediately clear whether impairment also played a role.
