Driver dies after crashing into ditch in Silver Creek Township

CASS COUNTY, MI - A driver was killed in a wreck in Silver Creek Township in Cass County on Thursday morning, WBND reported.

According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, the driver was headed south on Garrett Road shortly before noon when the vehicle crossed over the center line and went off the east side of the roadway.  The vehicle went down a ditch, rolled, and came to a rest in a field.

The driver, whose identity was not released, was initially trapped under the vehicle and was pronounced dead after being taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital.  A passenger refused treatment after being transported to the same hospital.  Both occupants of the car were not wearing seat belts.

The sheriff's office said neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be contributing factors in the accident.
