SAGINAW COUNTY, MI - An accident involving a train and two vehicles was reported Thursday morning in Saginaw County.
A report by WWMT states that police were called to the scene in the area of Lawndale Road and Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw Township at about 8:30 a.m. An investigation found that the initial collision involved a Dodge pickup truck and a Kia Telluride SUV.
Police said the driver of the Dodge could not stop at a traffic light at Tittabawasee Road and crashed into the Kia, which was driven by a 43-year-old woman from Auburn.
The impact sent the Kia onto nearby railroad tracks, but the driver was able to get out of the vehicle before it was struck by an oncoming Lake State Railway train The Dodge ended up in the intersection and went up in flames.
The 50-year-old Saginaw man who had been driving the pickup was hospitalized but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The Saginaw Township Police Department is investigating the accident, which shut down the intersection.
