Car accident on I-74 in Shelby County leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

SHELBY COUNTY, IN - A single-vehicle accident in Shelby County Tuesday morning killed a person riding in the car, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

WTHR reports the crash happened on westbound Interstate 74 southeast of Shelbyville shortly after 6:30 a.m. Authorities arrived to find a passenger dead at the scene. The victim's name was not immediately released.

The driver was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, though no further details were provided on the person's condition.

The sheriff's office is investigating the cause of the fatal wreck.
