South Bend man killed in wreck after driver runs red light

SOUTH BEND, IN - The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office announced charges against one of the drivers involved in a deadly crash in South Bend last week.

According to the South Bend Tribune, 35-year-old Jatonya Meysha Pringle of South Bend is charged with two counts: causing death when operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and reckless homicide.

Prosecutors said Pringle was believed to have been driving over 90 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone Aug. 29 when she sped through a red light at the intersection of Ironwood Drive and Jefferson Boulevard at about 7:35 p.m.

Her vehicle collided with a car driven by 40-year-old Forrest Ian Anthony Gibbs of South Bend, who was heading north through the intersection.  Gibbs's vehicle rolled and struck a tree, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers noticed Pringle showed signs of impairment, and her blood alcohol level was measured at .116, investigators said. Indiana's legal limit is .08%.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is continuing to investigate the crash.
