2 truck drivers dead after semis collide on I-25 in Sierra County

SIERRA COUNTY, NM - A head-on collision involving two semi-trucks in Sierra County left both drivers dead, New Mexico State Police said.

KVIA reports the vehicles crashed last Thursday night on Interstate 25 near mile marker 59 near Truth or Consequences at about 10:50 p.m. 

One semi-truck driver was headed north on I-25, struck an elk, went through a barrier and swerved into the southbound lanes where it hit the other semi.  Both trucks caught fire as a result of the wreck and the drivers died at the scene.

The driver of the second semi was identified as Adrian Alejandro Cruz of El Paso, Texas.  The other driver's identity has not yet been disclosed.

State Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
