2 teenagers critically injured in collision in Van Buren County

HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI - Two teenagers were critically injured following a collision in Van Buren County on Wednesday evening, WBND reported.

The two-vehicle crash happened in the area of County Road 681 and Red Arrow Highway in Hartford Township at about 6:20 p.m.  According to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker was southbound on County Road 481 and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.

The Tracker collided with a westbound 2012 Ford Focus, causing the Focus to roll over.

Five teenage girls from Hartford were in the Tracker, and two of them were hospitalized in critical condition.  Several other people were also injured in the wreck.   Several people in each vehicle were not wearing seat belts, sheriff's deputies said.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the crash, which shut down Red Arrow Highway and C.R. 681 near the scene for about two and a half hours.
