EDDY COUNTY, NM - The Eddy County Sheriff's Office is investigating a rollover car wreck last week that killed an 18-year-old driver, KRQE reports.
The teen was driving southbound on Hidalgo Rural Road on Nov. 27 when the accident occurred at about 2:15 a.m. According to an initial investigation, the driver went off the roadway onto the northbound shoulder north of Dark Canyon Road and lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled.
The driver was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was identified as 18-year-old Jiovanni Nevaeh Melendrez.
At this point, investigators believe that speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
