15-vehicle pileup on US 20 Bypass near South Bend during snow

SOUTH BEND, IN - Emergency crews responded to a 15-vehicle pileup near South Bend on Tuesday as snow caused slick road conditions throughout the area, according to WNDU.

The accident happened on the U.S. 20 Bypass, also known as the St. Joseph Valley Parkway.  Two of the vehicles involved were semi-trucks, while another was a school bus with only the driver on board.  Two people suffered minor injuries, but no one was seriously hurt.

A total of 33 crashes were reported by the St. Joseph County Police Department from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. as snow continued to fall.    The Bypass was shut down for several hours from Indiana 2 eastbound to Mayflower Road due to the incidents.

Officials warned drivers to stay off the US-20/US-31 Bypass due to the slick roadways and poor visibility.
