LAS CRUCES, NM - Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene of a fatal crash at a motel in Las Cruces on Friday morning, officials said.
According to the Las Cruces Sun News, the incident occurred at the Imperial Sky Motel on West Picacho Avenue. Investigators determined that the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban was attempting to leave the complex at about 11:30 a.m. but drove into the building. Two people were struck by the vehicle, a 55-year-old woman who died at the scene, and a 59-year-old man who sustained minor injuries.
The Suburban driver, age 22, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. No one else was in the vehicle.
The Las Cruces Police Department and Fire Department responded to the accident, which remains under investigation.
