1 driver killed, 1 injured in northeast Albuquerque crash

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - One driver was killed and another injured in a collision in northeast Albuquerque on Wednesday night, KRQE reports.

The Albuquerque Police Department said a 2021 Jeep and a Chevrolet SUV crashed at the intersection of Lomas Boulevard and Pennsylvania Street.

The driver of the Chevrolet told police he was trying to make a left turn from Lomas Boulevard onto Pennsylvania Street with a green light and a green arrow, and was struck by the Jeep. The impact caused the Jeep to crash into a telephone pole and roll over.

The Jeep driver was extricated from the vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries and was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital.

Albuquerque police are continuing to investigate the wreck, and said they do not believe that alcohol was a contributing factor.
